Product Overview

Aquatic Sensitive Plant (Neptunia aquatica)

The fern-like leaves are produced along white spongy floating stems and close when slightly touched. Sensitive plant floats on the water's surface, or planted in soil at the ponds' edge up to 12" deep.

Small tufted yellow flowers appear during the warm summer months. The spongy material enclosing the stems is quite remarkable, being a closed cell foam produced as a flotation device, and looking like white vienna sausages along the floating stems. If crowded and forced to grow out of the water, the stems lose this unique foam, but grows it again as soon as it reaches the water. Will not do as well in fast moving water or near waterfalls as the movement will cause the leaves to stay closed up.

Sensitive plant is a popular ingredient in Thai cuisine, and is used both raw and stir fried! Grows quickly in warm weather.

Sensitive Plant (Neptunia aquatica)
Hardiness Zones: 10-11
Light Requirements: Full Sun to Part Shade
Height: 1"-4" tall running spread
Water Depth: Floating surface pond plant or can be planted in up to 12" of water

Because they are sensitive to cold, we will hold shipments with this plant until 2 weeks past your Spring frost date unless instructed otherwise.

A Tiny little clipping is not a plant

Posted by Belle on May 13th 2021

When I go to the nursery and spend over $6 I expect to get an entire plant instead of a tiny little clipping of a plant and half of one was dead. So one little clipping is almost as long as my hand and the 1 that was half dead is as long as my middle finger. If you are going to sell a clipping tell people your selling a clipping don't tell them your selling them a plant... When my local nursery has them back in stock I will go there and buy a real plant
