Bletilla striata 'Big Bob' (ground orchid) Moisture Loving Plant
Big Bob is a large, robust and free flowering selection of Bletilla striata ground orchid. Bloom spikes will have up to 20 flowers on mature plants that are much larger than the species. Blooms are a 2-tone magenta, with the lips a distinctly darker magenta and at the same time strongly painted with jiggity white lines--a great contrast! Pleated sword-shaped leaves come up early from winter dormancy. We loved the species, but Big Bob makes a much bolder statement! Native to Asia.
Hardiness Zone: 7-9, as low as Z5 if protected.
Planting Container: We recommend a 2 gallon solid planting container or a medium planting bag.
Light Requirements: Full sun or part shade in cooler zones, part shade in warmer zones
Height: 18-24+", bloom spikes higher - Spread: 6-12"
Water Depth: Moist soil only!
