Product Overview

Water velvet (Salvinia minima)

Water velvet is a true aquatic fern. The spongy, velvety leaves are pale green and approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length. This tiny floating pond plant is great for container water gardens. It will also adapt well to a larger water garden, although they may be consumed by koi.

Very fast growing in warm weather, water velvet does not overwinter except in the very warmest of climates. This species of water velvet is often confused with a different larger species, the Salvinia molesta complex, which is federally banned as invasive.

    Great for Honey Bees!

Posted by Heidi on Jun 19th 2017

I use this plant in my pond so that the honey bees can gather water easily. My order arrived promptly and my plants are doing very well. I couldn't be more pleased with how healthy they looked right away.

    Beautiful

Lilyblooms has *the best* pond plants around. Very high quality that can't be beat. When I could no longer get another floating pond plant I had been using, Lilyblooms sent me a sample box of various floating pond plants they carried and salvinia was one of them. I wish I would have tried it sooner. It looks fantastic in my pond along with rosette water lettuce and so far is very hardy. I love it!
